My name is Gabby Rivera and I’m the 2016 Miss Greek representative for Alpha Omicron Pi. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle has always been my home. I went to Raisbeck Aviation High School where I was involved in clubs and leadership. Now, as a freshman at the University of Washington, I am incredibly honored to be the Miss Greek representative for Alpha Omicron Pi.
Cancer for College provides college scholarships to low-moderate income cancer survivors, which is a cause very close to my heart. One of my biggest role models, my grandma, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and has given me perspective into how cancer truly impacts not just a person but a whole family dynamic. While in high school I discovered my passion for biology and engineering and started working at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as a lab aid. I’ve continued to work there, and hope to major in bioengineering.
Witnessing the effects of cancer in my own family as well as in the lab motivates me to join the fight against cancer and pursue my career in the field of medical research.
