BENEFITING: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
ORGANIZER: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
Hi everyone! My name is Colby Elizabeth Grant and I am running the TCS New York City Marathon on November 5, 2017, for Team Snow, in memory of my friend Matt Snow and his courageous battle with ALS.
Matt and I both grew up on the North Shore and met through mutual friends in Lynn. Matt was the most genuine person I’ve ever met and was always the life of the party. In May of 2015, he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, most commonly known as ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Even throughout his illness, Matt maintained his positive attitude and brightened every room he entered.
For those who don’t know a lot about ALS, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Those with ALS slowly lose their ability to control their muscles throughout their body. Each case of ALS is different yet the senses such as hearing, sight, sound, taste, and touch are not affected.
ALS deteriorates the motor neurons which leads to muscle weakness eventually causing one to become paralyzed. So, not only am I running in memory of my friend, but I am running for those who physically can’t. I genuinely think with knowledge, awareness, and fundraising we can altogether find a cure for ALS.
With your help, I am hoping to reach my fundraising goal of $4,000 all of which will be donated to the ALS Association. ALS is one hell of a disease and any amount you can contribute to the cause can help Team Snow continue fighting for a cure!
