BENEFITING: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
ORGANIZER: ALS Association Greater New York Chapter
Because of ALS, I can't remember a time when my grandmother, Alice Stern (we called her Mom Mom), could walk or talk. What I do remember is her booming laugh, refusal to wear shoes indoors, wicked-smart board game skills, love of animals, and a mindset so inclusive that she'd invite the nearest person she saw on the street to a homemade Thanksgiving dinner. I'm running this race in her memory.
Running the NYC marathon is also a personal dream of mine. For me, running represents an ability to push through to a better mental state and way of life-- it's an escape, an expression of joy, and, at times, the number one thing I rely on to keep me sane. Being able to complete the pinnacle of all of races while touching all 5 boroughs in the city I'm living in would be one of the most satisfying accomplishments of my life.
I greatly appreciate any support as I attempt this feat in honor of Mom Mom. In doing so, I hope to keep her spirit alive and help search for a cure to this terrible disease.
