BENEFITING: The ALS Association Western Pennsylvania Chapter
EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2017
EVENT DATE: May 07, 2017
To many of you- thanks for being a part of this again, to anyone new- thanks for reading!
In 2014 I decided I would embark on a mission of completing my first half marathon for my Grandfather. As many of you remember he was diagnosed with ALS. Although running “one” half marathon was something I had on my bucket list I never actually had the determination to do so. It wasn’t until my Gramps said “just run, do it for me” that my mindset changed. And it was for him that I completed my first half marathon at the Pittsburgh Marathon in May of 2015.
If only “just like that” was as simple as it sounds. During my training my Gramps lost the horrible battle with ALS. Instead of letting this setback bring me down I used it to push me through. I knew in the bottom of my heart that my Grandfather was right there with me, with the best seat in the house. Finishing the race had a different meaning to me than others, it wasn’t just running, it was running for a reason.
It was through that time that I had the privilege of raising awareness for the ALS association. Thanks to YOU I was the top fundraiser for the 2015 Pittsburgh Marathon, ALS Association. I raised $4, 150 in support of the ALS foundation and research. I will never be able to find enough words to thank those who donated.
To witness the battle my Grandfather faced on a daily basis is something I hope no one ever has to witness or be a victim of. I pray for those battling, their families, and their friends, all which are somehow suffering in some way from the disease. It is not easy and it does not get easier. But it’s for all of you that I want to do this again. I want to help in any way I can to raise money and awareness to somehow defeat ALS.
So I am “just going run”, I am going to run for those who cannot. Enduring training and running again is nothing in comparison to their fight. I can/will do this again. He would tell me to quit complaining and be grateful I could walk. Gramps, I hope this makes you proud- I miss you so much- I will run for you!
With that being said I am asking for your help! No donation is too small, every dollar matters. I would really appreciate your donations in helping me run for a reason at the 2017 Pittsburgh Marathon on May 7th. Please DO NOT feel obligated but if you would like to make any contributions to the foundation and support me running in memory of my Gramps please do so below.
Thank you for your support and consideration!
