Alternative Spring Break
Organized by: Carissa
On January 19-26 I hope to help terminally ill youth by joining a youth group trip.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Each day students spend approximately 5 hours volunteering at Give Kids the World Village. Volunteer work is determined by the needs of the village on a given day. Usually students will work directly with the children and their families – serving food in the dining room, helping a child swim, helping the children on and off the merry-go-’round. The village might also schedule your group for a “work project” which can be anything from cleaning out a maintenance shed to washing dishes.
Hotel: This hotel is approximately 2 miles from the volunteer sight. The staff at this hotel is friendly and accommodating.
Kosher food is available at the local Wal-Mart (a short walk from the hotel) where you will find the major national brands of kosher food including microwavable frozen food. We will make several trips to Walmart together as a group. Shabbat Meals will be covered by Hillel. The rest of the meals you have to arrange yourself.
Group discussions, community building and reflection as well as outings to the local attractions. These include – Disney World, outdoor amusement parks, carnivals, bowling, “Downtown Disney,” etc.
