Welcome to my fundraising page! I have been involved with iMentor for 4 wonderful years and have had the priviledge of being paired with 2 mentees over the course of my involvement. iMentor is an organization that pairs working professionals with young people in underprivileged areas, in hopes of propelling them towards personal, academic and career success.
I joined iMentor in 2009 and am currently in the 3rd year of a 3 year match with my second mentee. Since joining the program, I have worked with some truly inspiring individuals who have worked so hard to get where they are, and know there still so much work to be done in order to be accepted and to graduate from college.
I've been fortunate enough to establish a positive and stable relationship with my current mentee Renee. Whether it be studying for a physics test or writing her college essay, her determination and drive to succeed is truly inspiring. As our friendship has grown, she has shared stories with me about her experiences inside and outside the classroom. She grew up in the Bronx, living with her mother, twin sister, aunt and cousin. Her young cousin suffers from mental disabilities and it has inspired her to pursue a career in special education. She graduated from Bronx Academy of Letters in May of 2012 and is currently a freshman at Deleware State University in the honors program.
In an effort to help iMentor grow and continue its successful initiative, I will be running the Women's Half Marathon on April 14th in New York to benefit the iMentor program. I am so happy to be a part of the organization and encourage you visit their website to learn more (or get involved!). I appreciate any amount you can give and thank you in advance :)
