Joshua Trees, the namesake of Joshua Tree National Park, are well on their way to becoming one of the first species listed on the endangered species list as a result of climate change. My Alternative Breaks team will be traveling to Joshua Tree National Park in January to assist scientists and park rangers collect data to assess how climate change has impacted the species, comparing the results this project sees to the data collected for a master's thesis 40 years ago.
My first Alternative Breaks trip last semester impacted my life greatly, and I'm so excited to be able to lead a fabulous group of people passionate about environmentalism to work on such an important cause, learn more about how National Parks are run, and hopefully help pave the way for Joshua Trees to continue thriving in the Desert Regions.
When the environment suffers, so does society, and so do people, and taking steps towards learning about climate change and try to reverse it are key to the survival of our planet down the line. Any donations you are able to give would greatly benefit this important cause!!
