Alyssa's Fundraiser for the Engineering World Health Program
Organized by: Alyssa Paul
I was recently accepted as a participant in the Engineering World Health Summer Institute in Nicaragua. The EWH Summer Institute sends students and young professionals in engineering and science to three countries — Nicaragua, Rwanda, and Tanzania — where their skills are put to use repairing medical equipment that saves patients’ lives.
This May I will be traveling to Nicaragua for nine weeks and I will be making an immediate impact. During the first month, students live with a local family, take language classes, and undergo rigorous training in how to diagnose and repair broken medical equipment. In the second month, students are deployed to local hospitals and clinics where they install and repair medical equipment, train and work with local staff, take inventory, solve problems and perform other engineering duties.
As a participant in the program, fundraising is encouraged as each member is responsible for his/her portion of the program expenses. I would greatly appreciate your help in order to fundraise $3,000 of my portion of the expense. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and if you choose to donate I sincerely appreciate the help.
