BENEFITING: ALZHEIMERS ARKANSAS PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
EVENT DATE: Sep 24, 2016
81% of our income is spent on programs and services for Arkansas Families!
Walks are a place where people just have fun. They laugh with others and laughing has been shown to relieve stress. Whether you Walk along or join friends, family or co-workers and walk as a team, please know that YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!! Many walk to honor or remember a colleague, friend or loved one affected by Alzheimer’s or one of the related dementias.
If you have never participated in one of our Walks, make it your goal to attend one in 2016. It is a great day of fun and one that you will remember for years to come.
We have already started planning the 2016 Alzheimer’s Walks! Walks need people and we need you! For ways you can help your Arkansas friends and neighbors please contact Barbara Jensen at 501-224-0021 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
I bet you didn’t realize that Arkansas was named #1 in Senior Hunger. That seniors aged 60 and older in the wealthiest nation on Earth could be going hungry is shocking! About 1/3 of all Arkansans aged 60 and older - more than 160,000 people - are living with food insecurity. They are faced with choosing between food and medicine, food and housing, food and utility bills. Food insecurity is fundamentally an issue of a lack of access to sufficient amounts of nutritious foods and is caused by financial hardship, lack of transportation, living in areas with few food stores and mobility issues.
Alzheimer’s Arkansas wants to do their part in helping these seniors. Our plan is to collect 1 or more can good items from each participant that attends one of our events, like the walks. We have partnered with the Arkansas Food Bank and whatever we collect in that county goes to seniors in that county.
