BENEFITING: ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION
ORGANIZER: ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
On Monday April 20 I will be lining up to run my 10th Boston Marathon. I know... last year was going to be it. My personal best is far back in my rear vision mirror; my qualifying times are certainly nothing to brag about. However, you have supported this marathon with over $170,000 since I first chugged up Heartbreak Hill with Patrick in 2001. How could I not rise to the challenge of training in the snowiest winter on record (and then leaving it to the last six weeks to cram in the miles). My body is tired, it is still freezing and there is snow on the ground but as my kids tell me, "Go run, Mom".
Today I am so excited as I have joined the Alzheimer's Association team to raise money to find a cure for this terrible disease. Alzheimer's, the disease which not only has been described to me as the "Mount Everest' of health care, but for my friends, the awful feeling of helplessness, to painfully experience the mental deterioration of a strong healthy parent who deserves the retirement years they worked so hard for, to bank family memories of grandchildren, and to live with dignity and strength of mind.
Today, there is a worldwide effort - from my roots in Australia to my home in the US - to find a cure for Alzheimer's and I would like you to join me in the search for that cure. For our parents, for us, for our friends and for our children.
You always give me my grit to get to the finish line. Monday April 20 is my run to remember this.
Thankyou. Thankyou. Thankyou.
