Ten years -$100,000
The 2006 Boston Marathon and the Alzheimer's Run for the Memory team could have been a once in a life time experience for us. It began instead a 10 year odyssey for us as runners and advocates.
The Boston Marathon has consumed 6 months and Alzheimer's 365 days of the years since that first run down Boylston Street. Now we are looking at a very special Boston Marathon as runners and as part of the Run to End Alzheimer's team – participating in our tenth Boston Marathon and a ten year total of $100,000 for the Alzheimer Association.
When you run Boston you become part of history and it defines a great part of your own life. We were at Boston in 2007 the year of the nor’easter and Dale Bob’s cancer. In 2008 he came back to finish with another qualifying time. One month before the 2012 marathon Dale Bob had a cardio stent put in, ran and finished in the record heat. 2013 I was stopped 1.5 miles from the finish. Dale Bob, side lined with a broken leg that year, was waiting at the Lenox when the bombs exploded. 2014 we crossed the finish line and helped take back the Marathon. Over the years we added 8 Reach the Beach 200 mile Relays to keep the miles and the support for Alzheimer's rolling .
The first Marathon we ran for my mother who lived with Alzheimer's for 13 years. 2013 we ran for my father who cared for her at home all those years. Now our runs focus on Dale Bob’s sister Linda living with early onset Alzheimer's at age 67.
Over the years with races, parades, boot drives and family quilts “the Dales” have become identified with Alzheimer's. It has made us aware of how many friends, family members and neighbors are living with Alzheimer .We hope to use that notoriety to surpass our personal fundraising goal and bring the final goal of a world without Alzheimer's closer to reality.
