ORGANIZER: ALZHEIMERS ASSOCIATION
EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
UPDATE: I did it! and I couldn't of done it without all of the great support you all gave me. From family and friends to colleagues and to people I've never met. What a great experience in helping such a great organization and to honor my father-in-law. Note: some people run with their names of their shirts to allow spectators to shout their name out and give them their support. This year, I ran with my Father-in-Law's nickname ('Yo-Bob') on my shirt so his name could be yelled throughout the course and the streets of Boston - his birthplace. RIP buddy, I'm sure you heard them yelling from Boylston!
For the past five years, my Father-in-Law, Bob Murphy, has been heroically battling Alzheimer's with amazing grace and dignity. Unfortunately, just a few days ago on March 19th, he lost that battle.
I'm running the 2015 Boston Marathon to honor Bob and the amazing life that he led and to carry his spirit through the streets of Boston. All funds raised will go directly to the NH/MA Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association - an organization that has not only been there for Bob and our family, but countless others in need of help.
Over the years, we have relied heavily on the Alzheimer's Associations to seek advice and support. With this resource availble to us, the uphill journey we have all been on has been forged flatter by the caring individuals who make up this great organization. His daughter, Kirsten, and I want to make sure this resource continues to be available for those in need.
We hope you help us honor this great man who we will all miss dearly.
I'm running with The Alzheimer's Association MA/NH Chapter as a member of their "Run to End Alzheimer's - Boston 2015" team and will participate in the 119th Boston Marathon® on April 20. The Boston Marathon is the world's oldest annual marathon and ranks as one of the world's most prestigious road racing events. The Boston Marathon has distinguished itself as the pinnacle event within the sport of road racing by virtue of its traditions and longevity.
I'm planning on a top three finish, Bob would have expected nothing less.
