BENEFITING: Alzheimer's Association
EVENT DATE: Nov 17, 2013
One night on a run I got to thinking about my grandfather, Larry, as I often do when I'm running, and I began to wonder how many months it had been since he'd passed away. I put two and two together that without even realizing it at the time, I had signed up to run the Philadelphia Half Marathon on November 17, exactly six months and one day after my family lost my grandfather to Alzheimer's disease. Not only that, November also happens to be National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Caregiver Month, as if I needed another sign that I'd be running this half marathon for him.
Before this, my only goal with this half marathon was to prove I could do it and make it across the finishline in one piece. But what I'd love even more is to cross the finishline knowing I can send a big, fat donation to the Alzheimer's Association in loving memory of my grandfather and in honor of my grandmother, whose unwavering commitment and care allowed my grandfather to stay at home with his family until the end of his life. I hope you'll consider helping me reach my $500 goal in any way you can.
