EVENT: Pittsburgh Marathon 2016
EVENT DATE: May 01, 2016
Hey there and welcome to my fundraiser! A little about me...I ran my very first half-marathon in 2015 with a final time of 2:08. I was hoping to get under 2 hours, but I was happy to finish! I am excited to add running as one of my hobbies. I have participated in some 5K races as well as The Great Race in Pittsburgh. I ran a 5k in Ashtabula in October 2015 and that was a blast! I did a PR that day: 27:13. I hope to continue to improve my times.
This year, I am participating in the relay for the PGH Marathon 2016. I chose to raise money this year for the Alzhemier's Association because my buddy asked me to join her team, as her grandmother was diagnosed with this illness. Also, Alzhemier's has been effecting our family rather closely, with my husband's grandmother being diagnosied and also his uncle passing away this past year from the disease. The thing that I feel is most terrible about Alzhermier's is that it not only effects the individiual, but also has a significant impact on family members as well. So any amount to support towards this Association helps families and their loved ones locally! Thank you for your support!
I plan to run one of the longer legs (which is around 6 miles I think) and initially, I wanted to run a 7:00min/mile. Well, as I began training, I realized that is not obtainable (at least at this time). Sooo..I've now changed my goal to run an 8:30min/mile (in hopes to actually be closer to 8).
Please feel free to post any advice/recommendations to help me through this!! I need it!
I usually participate annually at a local 5K for a great cause:
5K Walk/Run for Ramona with Family Adventure Walk. It is usually held at Old Economy Park in Baden PA by SS Peter and Paul Parish. Typically it is at the end of May-so keep an eye out- it's a good cause to support Cerebral Palsy Research.
