BENEFITING: YESHIVA UNIVERSITY
EVENT DATE: Jun 01, 2014
For the past two summers and this past winter I had the privilege of going on Yeshiva University’s Counterpoint Israel program. I was able to experience firsthand the amazing work that Counterpoint Israel does for Israeli teens from low socioeconomic communities in Southern Israel. I forged meaningful connections with the kids, taught them English, ran a variety of workshops and traveled on tiyulim together with them. I saw a different side of Israel that I never had the chance to explore before all due to the impactful Counterpoint Israel experience.
I have always admired the work that Counterpoint Israel has done. The three main goals of Counterpoint Israel are teaching the campers English, building our (the YU students) skills while learning about Jewish communal work, and cultivating true partnerships between YU and various municipalities of Southern Israel.
I've seen first hand that by teaching the campers English we give them a greater chance to succeed in school, have more career development opportunities, and most importantly (in my opinion) build their confidence. Much of this is done by engaging them in various activities and conversations specifically related to the self, family and community.
By sending YU students on this program, we enhance our educating skills while intensifying our love for the country. The summer camps are developed and implemented collaboratively so that Israeli stakeholders see Counterpoint’s camps not as a “gift” from the Jewish Diaspora but as an indispensable part of their educational systems.
I am about to spend my third summer (4th trip) on Counterpoint, taking on the role of Head Counselor for the second time. My resolve to help Counterpoint Israel is now even stronger and to keep this amazing program running we need your help. In the past 8 years, more than 250 YU students and 1000 Israeli teens from 8 development towns have been impacted by the Counterpoint Israel program. These successes are due to our generous donors and supporters. Every contribution helps ensure that Counterpoint Israel is able to continue its missions of developing Jewish leaders, enriching and instilling confidence in Israeli teens, and fostering empowering partnerships with development towns in Israel.
On Sunday, June 1st I am running in the Celebrate Israel run for Yeshiva University’s Counterpoint Israel. I plan to raise over $500 by race day and I hope you will help me reach this goal by making a small donation. Any amount of money can go a long way. Your support is a critical part of this effort and I know that together we can make a difference to these Israeli teenagers. All donations are 100% tax-deductible and the Team Counterpoint Israel website http://www.crowdrise.com/RunforCounterpointIsrael makes donations quick, easy, and secure, so please visit my Team name at "Amalia's Running for Counterpoint Israel!" web page today.
Thank you for supporting me and in doing so, helping change Israeli teenagers lives.
Support Counterpoint Israel Today!
P.S. I hope you will also forward this to anyone you feel might be interested in supporting Counterpoint
Israel. Together we will make a difference.
