Serving MEDLIFE in Cusco, Peru
Organized by: Amanda Bishop
EVENT DATE Jan 12, 2015
In January 2015, it is my goal to go to Cusco, Peru with a group of my community service sorority sisters from Virginia Tech. We will be working in mobile clinics and a local orphanage for a week and I am so blessed and thankful to have this opportunity to serve the world in such a unique way. I have a goal to raise $1,700 in order to go to Cusco and serve the community and I am very appreciative of any support or donations.
The largely indigenous population of Cusco, Peru and its surrounding communities continue to live in extreme poverty. In the rural mountainside, roads are often unpaved and unsafe, schools are stocked with only the most basic teaching supplies, and the nearest hospital may be up to two hours away by car. The residents of Cusco and its surrounding territory strongly identify with the indigenous Quechua culture, and the economy relies heavily on agriculture. Heavy rains and earthquakes frequently produce further hardships, as evidenced by the January 2010 flooding, which wiped out roads, utility grids, and structures alike. Not spared from the destruction were many of the area's few medical clinics.
MEDLIFE believes that in order to improve the overall health and welfare of families and communities in need, a comprehensive approach is needed. With this goal in mind, MEDLIFE seeks to deliver aid through three broad avenues: Medicine, Education, and Development. MEDLIFE divides donations into two funds, the MEDLIFE Fund, which dedicates 100% of every donation toward building sustainable development projects for poor communities, and the Mission Fund which is the broadest kind of giving to MEDLIFE and helps MEDLIFE accomplish its overall mission by funding logistical and operational expenses.
Through this fundraiser, it is my goal to raise $1700 for the trip to Cusco - $800 goes to MEDLIFE and the remaining $900 pays for all the trip costs. I am so excited to be presented with such an amazing opportunity to serve others. I am extraordinarily thankful for any support, whether financially, through prayer, or simply by sharing my page! If you feel compelled to donate, please do so here.
Thank you for your love and support! Ut Prosim.
