Amanda's International Service Learning Trip Fundraiser
Organized by: Amanda Gridley
EVENT DATE Jun 01, 2015
Hi all! My name is Amanda Gridley and I am a sophomore student at Iowa State University. After an amazing experience interning at a local eye care facility this summer, I have decided that optometry is something I have a passion for, and is the career I am going to pursue. With optometry school being very competitive to get accepted into, large amours of time working in the practice, including volunteer hours are very important aspects to have on a resumé. While getting experience in the field is crucial, I also feel it is important to give back to the people who are potentially giving me the key I need to success.
The International Service Learning program is what I believe to be the the perfect balance of helping others, and propelling me forward in my future career plans. This program is dedicated to educating people who have an interest in many different medical career paths, and also helping under-served populations in Central and South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Africa. After lots of personal research and discussions with staff members at ISU, I have decided that this is something I would very much like to be a part of, but I need your help to do it. My fundraising goal of only $3000 will cover a 9 day trip to Panama through the optometry program, passport fee, flight tickets, and personal meals while I am serving next summer (2015). Please help support me and the people of Panama. Any donation will be greatly appreciated and will go directly to helping not only my education, but also making a difference in another community. Thank you.
