Amber's lupus medical and recovery fund
Organized by: Amber Thompson
I am a 32 year old daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and most importantly single mom of 2 amazing children. 6 months ago I was diagnosed with lupus which is a non curable autoimmune disease which basically causes my body to attack itself. I have "flare ups" where my disease is in full control of my body and it leaves me completely bed ridden and in excruciating pain. In December I was hospitalized for over a week as the lupus caused me to develop a very deadly blood infection and I also developed endocarditis which is a bacterial infection in my heart. I had surgery on December 18th to remove as much of the blood infection as possible and the surgery left me with a 12 inch incision that wrapped around my entire leg. Upon being released from the hospital a picc line was inserted into my arm going to my heart and I received iv antibiotics (vancomyican) for a month and a half in which I had my fare share of complications with the picc line and both the blood infection and endocarditis, I also developed pneumonia in addition to dealing with my lupus flare ups. On March 12th I was once again hospitalized for the same deadly blood infection I had in December. On March 14th I again had surgery in attempt to remove as much of the infection as possible. This surgery has left me with 3 separate painful 10 inch incisions on my abdomen with over 30 staples. I am now home from the hospital working with home health care to recover from this bought of deadly blood infections and I am also trying to get my lupus under control. I was very fortunate this time to not need the picc line. I am unable to work at this time until my incisions are healed and the blood infection completely gone. The doctor expects me to be able to return back to work in another week. I have not been able to work since March 12th when I was hospitalized. As you can imagine it has been hard if not impossible for me to be able to work many hours during the majority of all of this since my 1st hospitalization in December. Those of you who know me know I am a hard worker and love my job, but with everything that has happened since my 1st hospitalization I have not been able to work many hours and my financial obligations and medical bills have been adding up. I am very fortunate to have a job who has been very accommodating to my need of time off in order to recover. I am asking for your help in order for me to get back on my feet and to help relieve some of the stress from these financial obligations and medical bills that continue to add up so I can continue to focus on my recovery in order to get back to my job full time and be able to continue to be the sole provider for my 2 children . Anything would help and will be greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance!! And could you please share this and help me get this out there! Thank you all!!
