AMC #Meds4Kids Q1 2017 update
April 07, 2017
BENEFITING: American Medchem Nonprofit Corporation
PLEASE NOTE: This project is on a temporary hold until some science issues are sorted out. We will revisit this project later (updated 11/24/17)
American MedChem Nonprofit Corporation (AMC) is preparing to kick-off it's first research collaboration in childhood cancer. The goal of this project is to carry out drug discovery research at AMC and create targeted medicine for children diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). In other words, create #Meds4Kids for children diagnosed with AML.
Currently a subset of children diagnosed with AML don't respond to available medicines, so their prognosis is dismal--just a 5-10 % survival rate. Children with this particular AML diagnosis (estimated 300-500 kids worldwide) need safe & effective targeted medicines to fight the disease.
AMC estimates a cost of $3-$5 million to complete a drug discovery project which is ready for clinical trials. The initial $250,000 raised in this campaign will support AMC scientists conduct research in the early stages of this project. We will continue to fundraise (through crowdfunding, philanthropic donations, research grants, etc.) during the entire life of this project (18-36 months) to fund various phases of R&D.
AMC strives to make your donation dollars have the maximum impact. Therefore, we commit to keep our overhead costs very low so that more than 80% of your contribution goes directly to fund research efforts. Please donate generously. Through your contribution you participate in the critical work of creating medicines to help heal sick children--a highly gratifying service. This is a mission that AMC takes very very seriously, and we want you to be part of it. Join us! THANK YOU.
