Through the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer program, the American Cancer Society works to help women who are touched by breast cancer today while working to free the world from the pain and suffering of breast cancer tomorrow. We support people today through programs like Look Good Feel Better® that helps women touched by cancer improve their appearance and self-image by teaching them hands-on beauty techniques to manage the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatments. We make a difference for tomorrow by continuing to invest in life-saving cancer research. American Cancer Society-funded research has led to the development of breast cancer drugs such as Tamoxifen and Herceptin, as well as the discovery of genes linked to breast cancer (e.g., BRCA1). We are currently funding more than $74 million in breast cancer research through 185 research and training grants.
