BENEFITING: First Nations Community HealthSource, Inc.
We are a group of American Indian women who have taken it upon ourselves to grow a shelter for the Indian Women and Families in New Mexico, we have no culturally viable shelter to turn to when faced with domestic violence or sexual abuse. 3 out of every 4 American Indian women will be assaulted sexually in their lifetime. There are 23 distinct Indian Tribes in New Mexico and 40,000 individual American Indians living in Albuquerque, representing over 300 tribes. Again, there in no shelter to meet the specific needs of American Indian women in our area.
Our Goal will be: To honor, nurture, and cultivate the beauty and strengths of American Indian families through creating the American Indian Women's Center; by providing culturally supportive programs in a secure, healing environment, that promotes wellness, and education; to build independence and resilience for the betterment of our community by ending domestic violence and sexual assault.
