BENEFITING: AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHEAST
ORGANIZER: AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHEAST
I will be running the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of the American Lung Association on November 5th. The ALA aims to defeat lung cancer, improve air quality, as well as eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related diseases, such as COPD. As some of you may know, this cause is extremely close to my family's heart and I will be running in honor of my grandfather, Stewart Unangst, who passed away from emphysema, a form of COPD, in 2012. Money raised will help support lifesaving research, education, and advocacy efforts to improve lung health for all.
More than 11 million people in the US suffer from COPD. It damages the airways in your lungs and leads to shortness of breath, impacting your work, exercise, sleep, and other everyday activities. This can cause serious long-term disability and early death. While there is no cure, COPD can be prevented and treated. Tobacco use, one of the major causes of COPD, also remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the US, killing close to half a million people each year.
Please help me achieve my goal of raising $5,000 by clicking "donate" on this page. All donations are 100% tax deductible. Anything that you can contribute is a step in the right direction-- $1 per mile translates to $26.20-- and would mean so much to my family and the millions of others affected. By donating, we can take action together and save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
Please share this link with friends and family. This will be my first marathon and while I am intimidated by both the training and fundraising, I know it is for a great cause. Thank you in advance for your support!
