Greetings Family and Friends!
Starting this year engaged to my best friend, knowing my kids are all healthy and doing well on their own, has left me nothing short of ecstatic, but I felt like I needed a little bit of a challenge in my life (not that planning a wedding isn't challenging) but this was on a more individual level.
Most of you know that I have been battling diabetes since 2003. It's been hard, but I stay active and try to support research by participating in the annual Step Out: Walk to Fight Diabetes several times as well as the Step Up challenge a few years ago which included walking 10 miles and climbing 1000 steps. Well, I found a new way to raise money and awareness, and I'm asking for your support once again. I am registered for the Tough Half Mudder on May 21st, which is a 5 mile course with 13 obstacles, IN THE MUD!
When I was diagnosed in 2003, I was angry and scared. My mom had died because of the complications from diabetes, so I thought I was being very careful by eating right and exercising. But, guess what, this disease doesn’t care! I had no symptoms, just found out at my annual check-up. So the prescription regimen started with constant changes on and off medications and even trials with new ones. One even put me in the hospital a couple times with such severe abdominal pain that the doctors thought it was a heart attack. That of course led to a stress test, which led to a cardiac catherization. Fortunately, I got the “all clear”, but it only made me more determined to fight this thing!
So I’ve decided to get down and dirty to raise money for the American Diabetes Association and all the good work it does. I’ve pledged to raise $1000 and I’m asking for your help. There are three ways to support my quest:
1. Join the team! Either as a fundraiser (and raise $1000) or as a participant (no fundraising). We can help each other get through those obstacles.
2. Donate to the American Diabetes Association via my fundraising page
3. Keep me and other diabetics in your prayers.
Please help me fight this disease. Not for me or my mom, but for my kids, your kids, and all the generations to come.
Living with Diabetes proves I AM A TOUGH MUDDER!!!!
Love you all!
