BENEFITING: AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHEAST
ORGANIZER: AMERICAN LUNG ASSOCIATION OF THE NORTHEAST
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Who we are:
Natives of the southern region of the U.S., we’ve been living in NYC for the past 7 years trying to conquer the city like many plan when they move here in their early 20s. Running the NYC Marathon is on our NYC bucket list as we see it as a chance to fully conquer the concrete jungle we call home. However, we knew we needed a worthwhile cause to truly motivate us to complete this challenge, which led us to pick a charity which we believe deserves recognition. We are running for the American Lung Association to help support an organization fighting for healthy air and the millions of Americans affected by lung disease.
Why we care about the American Lung Association:
Our very close friend, Jane, has been on a journey battling pulmonary fibrosis for over 4 years. To show our support and run in her honor, we are asking our friends, family and networks to donate for three major reasons:
- Due to limited research and the rarity of her case, it has taken time to fully understand Jane’s diagnosis and there are still questions unanswered. By donating to the American Lung Association, we can contribute to future lung health research around diseases like pulmonary fibrosis.
- Jane’s case led her to have a double lung transplant in January 2016. We are very thankful she was able to receive two healthy lungs, but she is on the long road of recovery. As a way of showing our support to Jane and other lung transplant survivors, we are asking you to donate to an association dedicated to creating a community for those overcoming lung illness.
- People need education on the lung diseases that face our country, so those who are suffering can seek help early on, and we can continue to fight for clean air for all.
What you can do:
Donate to a good cause AND more importantly sign up to be an organ donor. More than 10,000 New Yorkers are on waiting lists for organs as the need far exceeds the supply. It’s very easy to register!
