QUIT SMOKING! STOP LUNG CANCER!
I am running NYC 2016 Marathon to raise money for American Lung Association. ALA is the oldest voluntary health agency in the U.S. that has been helping fund research of various lung maladies, including cancer, for over a 100 years.
I've run 2 marathons in my life, and wasn't planning on running one again, ever. Then, in April of this year, my Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer (initially stage 2, later downgraded to stage 4). Dad was a smoker for 30 years, then quit nearly 25 years ago, but cancer caught up with him. So far, Dad has had surgery, chemo, radiation, and he is now undergoing immunotherapy. Dad is fighting bravely, and he is in good hands of an excellent medical team at Duke. Our family and friends have all rallied behind him, and Dad has all of our support. We are there for him 100%, but there is only so much that we can practically do to help day to day, and we want to do more! That’s why I decided to run and raise money for ALA to help increase awareness of this deadly disease and fund prevention of its primary cause, smoking.
The NYC 2016 Marathon takes place on November 6. As I just joined the ALA team (and they were amazing in helping me get onto the team this late), I am way behind in training and fundraising, but I am confident I will make it in time, with your help and support. I am extremely motivated to get there this year.
Please help me achieve my goal of raising $5,000 for this important cause. Doctors tell us about remarkable progress in cancer research in recent years, and that cure of cancer is not far off. It can’t be too soon! Let’s help make it happen!
Thank you all!
