So I spent four months training for the New York City Marathon, and then Hurricane/Superstorm/Miserywagon Sandy happened. While I agree that it wouldn't have looked great spending so many resources on us long-distance running crazies when so many other people were struggling to survive, I'm still left with two perfectly good legs here that I've been training for nothing.
So, as usual, I decided to do something even crazier.
The New York Road Runners are holding a 60K in Central Park on November 17th, and I've officially signed up for it. It's 37.2 miles, which is eleven miles MORE than a marathon, and it's a lot more than I've ever run in a single day in my life. To help make sure I finish all those miles, I was wondering if some of you would be interested in pledging to donate a dollar to the Red Cross for every mile that I run (or, if you're feeling particularly generous, a dollar for every kilometer). There's no set amount though: all donation sizes are welcome. I'm sure that many of you have already given to relief efforts, and that's awesome, but if you're still looking for an extra reason, or feel like giving some more, I'd be thrilled to have your support.
P.S. It also looks like those of you in the United frequent fliers program could get a little extra out of it, too:
