One of our country's national treasures – the Colorado River’s Grand Canyon – is facing threats that could destroy its health and ruin the experience for anyone visiting the park.
The first is a proposed tram that would take up to 10,000 people per day from the canyon rim down to the river. That project alone could turn the confluence of the Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers into a cross between a strip mall and an amusement park. Second, there is a major housing and hotel development proposal that would deplete groundwater and harm important springs and seeps that keep the Colorado River healthy. And third, there is the ongoing challenge of pollution from uranium mining seeping into creeks and threatening the Colorado River’s clean water.
