EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
I lost my father to suicide. It was an extremely hard time. After months of being depressed and only focusing what energy I had on my kids, I decided it was time to start taking care of myself. I put my kids in the jogger and went for a run. That moment changed everything for me. I realized how good I felt after running. Not only physically, but emotionally. Running became a therapy for me. I went from not even being able to run a full three miles, to running two half marathons this year. I also finally faced my emotions and learned more about suicide and was able to understand why my father did what he did and really put things into perspective. Now I have the honor of running the Boston Marathon while raising funds to bring awareness to suicide prevention. Suicide is the country's 10th leading cause of death and is something that is not talked about often. AFSP is dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy. They also provide programs and resources for survivors of suicide loss. I am running to raise money for awareness; to make people talk about suicide and learn the warning signs and what to do. I am running to help families who are impacted by suicide and to have the resources to get through the hard times. I am running to be able to live in a world with no more suicide. I am running for my Dad. Please support my journey. Your donation means everything to me. Thank you!
