Why I run
October 18, 2017
Hi all - I'm kind of new to this running thing, and so thankful for all the support and encouragement! It has been a life changing event for me, not only in body but spirit as well! I started this adventure last year with the goal of shedding a few pounds and adopting a healthier lifestyle. 50 lbs lighter, 1005 miles and 10 months later I've decided to challenge myself even further by competing in the NYC marathon. To that end, I've been competing in 1/2 marathons, with 7 under my belt and 5 more to go to prepare me for the NYC marathon. Running has opened a door to an incredibly supportive and kind community and I am forever grateful. I've been fortunate enough to participate through Americares, and now I need your help. Asking for help is never easy, I know in my heart this is for a great cause. Having worked in the healthcare industry for 20+ years, I know how important access to quality healthcare. Here in our home state of Connecticut, where more than 325,000 residents live without health insurance, Americares operates four free clinics – in Danbury, Norwalk, Bridgeport and Stamford. The clinics bring together skilled volunteers and donated services to provide quality care to uninsured residents, helping more people get the primary care and medicines they need but cannot afford. Americares saves lives and improves health for people affected by poverty or disaster so they can reach their full potential. You can find out more about what Americares does here - http://www.americares.org/.
As part of running for this team, I want to make a difference and surpass all fundraising goals. Help me in my goal to help others and join me in crossing the finish line personally or in spirit at NYC Marathon on November 5th! Again, thanks for all your support!
