I have been competitively running for 26 years and have completed 1 marathon - Newport, RI in October 2012. My training has been intense and a total commitment: So far I am in week 9 of a 16 week training program, averaging anywhere from 25-35 miles a week. I have logged just shy of 200 miles so far.
I love playing sports, any kind of sport. I competed professionally as a Snowboarder in Half-pipe and Slopestyle from 1997-2001. I wasn’t too sure that I ever wanted to attempt another marathon but my brother in law, who had guaranteed entry this year, talked me into it (he also talked me into the one I completed last year, I guess he’s a good talker). Also, growing up in the area and having known and been a spectator for many of my family and friends who have previously run the NYC marathon, I figured it’s something I had to do if I could gain entry.
Why Team AmeriCares? Having worked professionally with AmeriCares for the last 2 years and seeing their global commitment to those in dire need of medical and humanitarian aid was more than enough inspiration for me in wanting to join the Team. I’m hoping my efforts helps to create more awareness and understanding of the heroic undertakings AmeriCares employs to provide disaster relief in times of need.
