RUNNERS FOR HURRICANE RELIEF:
We've all seen the devastation, now it's time to take action. People are without food, clothing, shelter - the basic neccesities of life. We all have the power to help! This week there have been many questions on whether or not the NYC marathon should be held. I was not scheduled to run it but am sending out an alternative solution anyway: Instead of traveling to a disaster area, bogging down an already crippled transportation system, taking resources away from first responders and the like how about another option? Don't travel to NYC - but plan a route and run your marathon near your home on marathon day instead, all the while using this page to raise funds for Americare, whose team is working on Hurricane Sandy disaster relief. Run your marathon and fundraise for the victims of this horrible disaster. Forward this page to your friends! You've all trained hard, but now you can achieve something even greater than a marathon itself, and that's helping those in need. Also If you weren't going to run a marathon and would like to particpate please do so! And no matter what your feelings are in regards to the NYC marathon please consider donating to Americares - you CAN make a difference! My husband and I will be running 26.2 this weekend - lets see how many people we can get to help out! We may be far away, but we can still make a difference!

Please join us to support Sandy relief.
We can all help support AmeriCares in providing aid to those affected by Sandy. AmeriCares has delivered medical relief and humanitarian assistance to millions affected by natural and man-made disasters worldwide for 30 years. In the past year alone, AmeriCares responded to several emergencies in the U.S. including Hurricane Isaac in Mississippi and Louisiana, tornadoes in Kentucky and Indiana and wildfires in Colorado. In 2011, in response to one of the worst tornado seasons in decades, AmeriCares delivered nearly $3 million in aid for disaster survivors all across the country.
When heavy rains and flooding force residents to be evacuated from their homes, AmeriCares delivers personal care items and bottled water to shelters and food banks assisting displaced families. The aid organization also delivers cleaning supplies to help families in the U.S. cleaning up storm damage, as well as medical aid for evacuees with chronic health problems forced to flee their homes without their prescription medicines. Their support is in great need in the area affected by Sandy.
Join the relief efforts by donating to the AmeriCares, and we will reward your generosity by providing you with a one-time MileagePlus® mileage bonus. MileagePlus members who give $50-$99 USD will receive 250 bonus award miles, and those who contribute $100 USD or more will be rewarded with 500 bonus award miles. We are committed to awarding up to 5 million total MileagePlus miles to members for contributions made before November 30, 2012, to support this initiative.
