BENEFITING: American Cancer Society
EVENT DATE: Jun 01, 2011
Earlier in the year I came across Crowd Rise, and a fundraiser that Paul Rudd had going on titled 'More Birthdays'. He had the idea of giving up his birthday, and instead of getting presents, he asked for people to donate to the ACS (American Cancer Society). I was really inspired by his idea, and decided to do the same for my birthday this year.
This past October, I lost someone very special to me to colon cancer. She was the mother of one of my best friends, and basically a mother to me. It's still hard every day to think that she isn't here.
Just recently, I lost the mother of my other best friends to pancreatic cancer. She was another mother to me, and she touched so many people in her life. She's going to be missed, and never forgotten.
The two of them are the reasons why I want to do this so bad.
The campaign for more birthdays, is just that. To work towards celebrating more birthdays for everyone, and having less cancer in the world. The American Cancer Society has been working towards that idea for nearly 100 years. Thanks in part to the progress the ACS has already made, more than 11 million cancer survivors will celebrate another birthday this year. You yourself can help create a world with more birthdays, and less cancer. Start today, and please donate.
I like the idea of asking for people to donate their age. So if you're 25, you would donate $25 and so on. However, any donation is very much appreciated and helps at the end of the day.
