Amputee Father of 2 in need of a safe & equipped vehicle
Organized by: Robert Blodgett
Hello, I am a 38 year old BKA from severe frostbite I also have 2 young children a 8 month old and a 4 year old, winter is here in AK and we are in need of safe transportation, I have tried applying for loans and keep getting denied, I've tried to save up for a vehicle but on a fixed income with 2 kids is very tough, I have turned off our Internet and moved our belongings into our apartment from our paid storage to save money for a larger down payment. During the school year I take care of my childrens uncle, we give him a safe family environment and makes sure he attends to school everyday, he is very athletic and competitive and enjoys school sports, in the beginning of the new year he wanted to sign up for volleyball and wrestling, it was hard to tell him that it wouldn't be a good idea because we dont have a vehicle to get him to and from practices as well as the fund raisers that go with junior high school sports. 2 years ago I had donated 1 of my great running vehicles to a guy that just had a stroke and lost his job and was down on his luck. At the time he was a complete stranger and now he is a friend, I help him the best I can to keep his vehicle maintained. My disability has kind of forced me into trouble shooting and working on my vehicle because I cant afford to take it into a shop. I enjoy helping complete strangers when I see that thier in need of assistance with thier disabled vehicle whether its on the side of the highway or in a store parking lot I will always take time out to make sure thier alright and if I can help. I explain this to my daughter why we need to stop and check on people because it could very well be us in need and broke down. Where we live there is no public transportation. Its 5 miles to the nearest grocery store, and there isnt a sidewalk nor a bicycle trail and isn't the safest taking my kids to town to do our shopping most of the way there is a ATV trail on the side of the highway. I do have a license and am responsible, I am still paying insurance on a vehicle that has a blown engine but I can't afford to stop my policy and start all over on a new one since ive had my policy my rates are manageable with my fixed income. I don't know what else to do, I can't make it to my appointments for medical and building of a new prosthesis because we've been with out a vehicle. I can work and want to work but walking in the winter with a prosthetic leg that doesn't fit is painful. I enjoy helping everyone and anyone that is in need. So here I am on the internet via my phone asking please help my family and I, Anything that can help will be so greatly appreciated.
Thank you, and Thank you Crowdrise for making this possible for an in need family. Take care, Be safe, Stay warm
