We are asking for your help with one of our most urgent cases, Iraq 771, a scholar of archaeology currently in hiding with his wife and children in Iraq, where he faces threats from ISIS.
Safety is almost in reach for this family. We are asking for your help to raise $4,600 in travel funds. By supporting our campaign, you make it possible for this scholar and his family to travel to the Netherlands, where our partners, UAF and VU University of Amsterdam, have generously extended an offer of an academic position.
Please make a donation today.
In so doing, you help restore peace to a family living in fear, and ensure this scholar’s voice is not silenced by violence and intimidation. On behalf of UAF and VU, as well as the scholar and his family, we thank you for your support. Though we cannot disclose the scholar’s identity, we will pass on to him the names of his supporters. When making your gift, please feel free to add a personal message for us to share. Any additional funds raised will go to the SAR emergency fund, so 100% of your contribution will go directly to scholars in need.
Scholars at Risk is a dynamic global movement which defends scholars, students and universities under threat, and works to advance a vision of quality, socially-engaged higher education that serves the broadest public good. SAR was established in 2000 and is made up of more than 390 member institutions in 39 countries. Each year we assist more than 350 scholars, including arranging more than 80 positions of refuge at partner universities for scholars unable to work safely at home, providing advice and referrals for other at-risk scholars and campaigning for over 70 scholars in prison. Scholars at Risk is a convener—bringing together partners in the humanitarian, human rights and higher education communities—and a catalyst for positive change.
