BENEFITING: AMY ALEXANDER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Oct 12, 2015
The mission of The Amy Alexander Foundation is to financially assist with the unique expenses associated with Spinal Cord Injury. Above and beyond living expenses, the foundation assists with home health care, home modifications, vehicle modifications, daily medications, physical therapy, equipment & more. The foundation fills in financial gaps for people with Spinal Cord Injury so they can live happily and healthy NOW! A car accident at the age of twenty-one paralyzed Amy Alexander from the shoulders down, instantly ripping the carpet of her life out from under her. She had lost control of the basic things most people take for granted – walking, trunk balance, finger movement, basic internal body functions and all the secondary physical, mental, emotional and social issues that comes with it. Fiercely independent, Amy fought to find control in her new life, and she found it when she recognized her gift of choice. Despite what the accident had taken away, she recognized she could still choose what she wanted and how she wanted it. Founded in 1994 by Elaine Golden, Amy's 8th Grade Math Teacher, the Amy Alexander Foundation began what is now over 2 decades of support for those living with Spinal Cord Injury. As a writer, Amy has parlayed her belief in our individual personal power into her business What’s Your Wheelchair, Inc. The idea behind WYW is although Amy’s wheelchair is easy to see, everyone has their wheelchairs in life they struggle to overcome. On October 12th, 2015 we’re celebrating the 17th Annual & Grand Finale of the Amy Alexander Foundation Golf Tournament at Wallkill Golf Club in Middletown, New York. For nearly two decades, this event has been the largest source of funding for the foundation, allowing us to help those with spinal cord injuries live an easier life.
