MEET AMY DODSON
I lost a leg and a lung to cancer in the mid-1980’s. Despite having spent much of her youth battling cancer, she graduated from the University of Arizona with a teaching degree, then went on to earn an MA in Education, as well as an EDS in Reading. I've been teaching elementary school since 1985, and am currently a fourth grade teacher just south of Tucson.
I started participating in long distance running and triathlons in the late 1990‘s, and have run numerous full and half marathons. Besides my distance running, I was a member of the USAT Paratriathlon Team from its inception in 2004 until 2009. During that time I've won two USA Paratriathlon National Championships, two ITU Paratriathlon World Championships (2004 and 2007) with two had second place finishes in 2008 and again in 2009 in Gold Coast, Australia. I've also completed two Ironman distance triathlons, with a personal best of 13:23 and was the first female leg amputee to finish the Boston Marathon.
