In January of this year Amy began school for herbal sciences. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with cancer of the lymph nodes in her neck. After extensive neck surgery, chemo therapy and radiation treatments there were complications resulting in multiple hospitalizations.
Amy had otherwise been in good health and is very resilient. This type of treatment is very harsh and difficult to recover from. Amy's radiation treatment also involved her mouth which complicated her recovery. She was unable to eat for several months. Due to this and persistent nausea, she was re-hospitalized multiple times. Her status became very critical over the past few weeks related to malnutrition.
Amy has turned a corner and is now at home with loved ones which we feel is the best medicine. She is continuing with an IV (TPN) for nutrition at home until she can begin to eat food again. Needless to say, she is a student with an apartment and expenses which have been piling up since she lost her financial aid, due to her complicated and extended recovery. Amy’s daughter Sarah has been her primary support at home and is staying with her. Other loved ones are on the way for additional support, which she will need to continue with her recovery over the next few months.
Amy plans to return to school and looks forward to using the wealth of this experience to help others going through something similar. Yea Amy! You can do it!
Any leftover funds will go toward Amy's education costs unless otherwise specified.
Your help is greatly appreciated!
