As some of you are aware my family suffered a devastating loss from this disease. On June 17 my Aunt Nancy passed away from AL Amyloidosis. That was one phone call I never wanted to receive.
At the end of April she was admitted to the hospital because she couldn't keep any food down and had a metallic taste in her mouth. She was in and out of that hospital for two weeks when my Uncle decided to have her transferred to University of Indianapolis hospital system. Here she was diagnosed with the AL disease. From what I was told she was never in pain till her final days.
The symptoms for this are very subtle and it is even harder to detect. She had CT scans and MRIs done in April and nothing was ever found to be abnormal.
The research for this disease is very minimal but the disease is very rare and deadly.
I am raising money in memory of my Aunt and in the honor of her family. The hole she has left in the lives of my Uncle, cousins, mom and dad, and her nieces and nephews is enormous. We are all the better for having her love in our family.
Thank you for your support. We are hopeful that any little bit will help fund the research that could lead to better treatment and a cure for this devastating disease.
