Hello donors, I would like t…
Hello donors,
I would like to do one final update to all how have donated to the Nepal earthquake relief efforts.
I visited the village in late July which still resembles a refugee camp after a war. Everyone is living in temporary shelters made of tin and salvaged materials and looks traumatized. All the villagers were very grateful for the food supplies you all provided. That food is the only food they received since the quake. They are actively planting rice and gardens to feed themselves. Because we cannot rebuild 1000 homes, I asked how we can help them, help themselves. The answer was to build a milk station. This is a building where milk not used by the family could be measured, stored and sold to nearby cities. It is the only income generating source they have. The milk station will cost $25,000. It will consist of a two story 4 room building that will act as a community center, and be earthquake proof. It will have a stainless steel tank, centrifuge, and generator.
I know you have all given generously for relief. If you can give one last time for rebuilding, it would be gratefully appreciated and do so much to help the villagers get back on their feet, so that they can slowly save money to rebuild their homes on their own. Also, if you would like to go to Nepal to help work on the project please let us know at

Sincerely on behalf of the people of Chandeni Nepal.

Namaste you wonderful donors…
Namaste you wonderful donors. A quick update on Nepal:
$22,350 went to purchase tarps and food for the village of Chandeni which has 1100 households. Supplies are being distributed by Arjun, DB and Tara. All but two homes were completely destroyed there.
$2650.00 went to purchase tents and tarps for Gorkha distributed by Jwalant Gurung.
$2600 went to purchase tarps for the village of Okhaldhunga distributed by Pema Sherpa. We are still waiting to hear total damage to Sibuje which has no cell service and hope to get supplies there but its a 3-day walk from the Lukla airport. If we get more funds we will purchase tarps for villages in the Solokhumbu and trek them in there.
We spent $20 on international wire transfer fees. We are hoping to gather funds to rebuild so please spread the word.

We are accepting applications for re-building volunteer trips. These will occur throughout the fall. To apply please go to:

The 10 year old son of my host family in Chandeni called me on Monday. How?, I will never know. I asked him "Sabin how are you?
His little high pitched voice came across the airwaves and he said "House is gone, cow is dead, I am fine" His voice was upbeat, happy he could talk on a phone with me on the other side of the planet and temporarily forgetting the tragedy facing his family.

I am deeply grateful for your support. For continued updates go to the Crooked Trails Facebook page.

PS this what I send to every…
PS this what I send to everyone else
Thanks so much for your donation for Nepal.
100% of funds raised will go there.

I have spent well over a decade going to Nepal and this tragedy is breaking my heart. Follow our Crooked Trails Facebook page for ongoing relief effort updates.

We just wired the first $10,000 donated. We are organizing relief efforts now with tents, the first shipment should be getting to the village in 2 days. I will be continually wiring funds over to our NGO partners who are purchasing supplies and using grass roots links to get supplies to remote rural villages who have received no assistance.
One video we just saw was of a family digging through the rubble of their home to find food and clothes and found their daughter dead. This is a huge tragedy.

100% of your donations will go directly to the villages so they can get on their feet. The Nepali people are amazingly strong with huge hearts and they will survive this. But they need our help to start.

We will continue with tents and food for the coming weeks. Then, we will be organizing volunteer programs to Nepal this fall and next spring for re-building. One of the villages we work in just confirmed all but two homes are destroyed and they are out of food. Thankfully the school we built survived.

If you are interested in being on the volunteer groups please contact All trip costs and airfare are tax deductible. You will have to be prepared for very rustic conditions including bathing in the river, sleeping on the ground, eating with your hands and using squatter toilets.

Harriet Baskas of NBC News just talked to me about tourism in Nepal

and if you need hope about how the world is responding its here:

Sincerely and with much gratitude,
