Hi everyone, As my HBOT therapy draws to a close, I would like to make and send out physical Thank-you cards as a token of my appreciation for See More

THE STORY:

My name is Amy. I'm 27, and I suffer from post-concussion syndrome.

Six months ago, I was in a car accident that changed my life. I had just finished a hectic summer of working as a college Writing Centre tutor and completing a semester towards my Master's degree, and I was looking forward to a couple of weeks of rest. Fast forward a few days, and I found myself a passenger in a car that was rear-ended by a TTC bus. The impact pushed us through an intersection, and thankfully we didn't hit any pedestrians or other cars.

Since then, I haven't been able to return to school or work, nor have I been able to do a lot of daily tasks. Anything that vibrates my head worsens my constant headaches, including walking. I live a very still and minimally active life now. An example of this is that I am often too tired to even eat throughout the day, so I'll eat one big meal so I don't have to stay up and digest more often than I have to.

I am raising money for 40 sessions of Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT). The cost is $6500. My family has already paid for 40 sessions, but we can't afford to do anymore. Prior to HBOT, I did not get better at all for three months. No amount of rest improved my symptoms. HBOT is the only treatment that improved some symptoms. (For example, by the 30th session, I was able to read a few pages a day in total, listen to up to 20 minutes of language tapes without crippling headaches, had more energy to go for walks, and was all around more stable.)

A single session costs $170, but since hyper baric oxygen therapy is cumulative, to have therapeautic effects, I would need 5 sessions a week for 8 weeks.

This whole experience has been a struggle, but also humbling. Throughout my volunteer and teaching experiences, I always felt empowered to help others. But now, since the accident, one of the biggest lessons I am learning is how to ask for help.

Right now, due to my health, I am unable to work to pay for the very treatment that would allow me to get better and to return to work.

I believe in humanity and generosity in its many forms. I would be grateful for any amount of funding you could give, even if just to show your support.

To other people reaching out, or anyone going through a tough time, I find this song comforting-- perhaps you will, too: Oh Wonder's "Landslide" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpLDMsYCoAs

"I know it hurts sometimes, but you'll get over it. You'll find another life to live. I know you'll get over it."

Thank you for your generosity.

Love,

Amy
