An Up and Coming Wilderness First Responders Dream
Organized by: Jeremy Chappell
Hello, everybody! My name is Jeremy, and my dream is to become a wilderness first responder! I'm here on crowdrise today to ask for donations for my tuition (but I'll bet you figured that out on your own). My interest in this type of work started when I attempted to enlist in the US Army. I was looking at the list of jobs I qualified for and Combat Medic caught my eye. I figured I'd be happier saving life's rather than taking them, so I chose that profession. I never made it through Basic Training, unfortunately, but my dream of saving lives stayed strong. After my discharge I heard of an organization called the National Outdoor Leadership School that offered a course that includes wilderness first responder training as part of the curriculum. It would appear that they work closely with Central Wyoming College to offer this WFR course as part of CWC's Outdoor Education major. So I thought that if I attended CWC then I could get the WFR training and a degree in the same token! But now we come to the sticky part... As some of you may know (if you ever attended a NOLS semester course yourself), NOLS courses are EXTREMELY expensive. Even the one I'm looking at is a whopping $14000 for the single semester. Add that on to typical college costs and the price tag.... ah.... adds up. Fast. To put it mildly. And I want to graduate debt free if at all possible. So with all this in mind, anything that anyone can contribute to my cause would be VASTLY appreciated. I still need to get a car to actually get me TO college as well, but that's an entirely different enchilada. So thanks for listening to my babbling (sorry if this wall of text was a little intimidating), and I hope to hear from someone soon! Help me save some lives!
