Help my Anacostia High School Scholars become global citizens ready to make this world a better place!
The Anacostia Model United Nations team has been selected to participate at the prestigious North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) conference to be held in Washington, D.C. February 14-17, 2013. The four students who will attend NAIMUN have begun actively fundraising to subsidize the estimated $1012.30 per person this conference will cost.
This will be Anacostia Senior High School students’ first chance to participate in the international conference, which each year draws nearly 3,000 students and faculty members from high schools all around the world! NAIMUN, the largest student-run conference in the world, is staffed by over 200 Georgetown University students whose keen interest in international relations and dedication to Model United Nations have made NAIMUN the preeminent Model UN conference in the Western Hemisphere. This conference provides a stimulating learning environment in which students are pushed to heighten their understanding of international political, economic, and humanitarian issues while also improving their negotiation, diplomacy, and problem-solving skills.
The Anacostia Model UN team hopes to significantly reduce the cost of attending NAIMUN through a variety of fundraising efforts, including a global bake sale(featuring international desserts!) at Anacostia High School. Yet even with this local fundraising effort, the cost may still preclude some of our team from attending and staying at the Washington Hilton like almost all of the other schools at NAIMUN. Being students from a Title I school in SE Washington, we need extra financial help to be outfitted in proper Western business attire, attend committee dinners, and even donate to this year's charity at NAIMUN, Action Against Hunger. Therefore the team is actively seeking other sources of support outside our school community.
