BENEFITING: THE MAYORS FUND TO ADVANCE NEW YORK CITY
EVENT DATE: Nov 04, 2012
****PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MARATHON HAS BEEN CANCELED. HOWEVER, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DONATE TO THIS CAUSE ANYWAY! THERE ARE PLENTY OF PEOPLE THAT NEED YOUR HELP."****
Initially, I wanted to run the marathon as a personal goal, and I never joined a charity because I didn't want to inconvenience my family and friends. However, after the devastation of Sandy, I am trying to raise money for the charity "Race to Recover", which will help a number of charities involved in the relief efforts after Sandy. There are only two days before the marathon, so please join me as I rush to make a difference!
This is the first time I am running a marathon, and I always knew I wanted my first to be the NYC ING Marathon. To me, the NYC marathon is one of the most beautiful events in NYC, and it truly brings out the best in New Yorkers. Last year was the first time I was involved in marathon activities, and the runners we encountered from all over the world were so inspiring. There are old runners, disabled runners, runners of all different ethnicities, coming together for this single event. The marathon has a way of bringing people together and giving back to the community. There are several charities that rely on proceeds from the marathon, and now more than ever it is a great opportunity to raise money on releif efforts.
This year, after the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Bloomberg's decision to go forward with the marathon has been a very controversial issue. I have mixed feelings about this, and I can understand both sides. I have to believe that more good will come out of going forward with the marathon, and it inspired me to raise money for the relief efforts. If I am going to run this thing, I want to be sure I have done my part to help those affected by Sandy.
New York Road Runners have created "Race to Recover" and donated $1M to the cause, and any money you contribute will go to this fund. Please join me and make my run worth it! Every little bit counts....
