Ana lives with both parents and eight siblings. They are a very poor family who struggle to survive on a daily basis. Her father works whatever job he can find and her mother works at home taking care of her children. Her mother did not study beyond 5th grade and her father beyond 1st grade because their parents could not afford it. Whenever her father finds work, he only makes about $4 US dollars per day.
They owned their house on the dangerous side of the retaining wall. The mud and water filled their home about 20 cm high. It buried clothes, blankets, toys, shoes. Their bed is still soaked with mud. They escaped together, and went first to a neighbor's house, and slept there. But since they had nowhere to go, they started cleaning out their house. They no longer own a Onil fuel efficient stove, the family has three wooden beds with old mattress which have to be shared.
I am trying to raise 1,074 US dollars to help the family with their needs. I have calculated how much I need to buy them the following items:
Bed & mattress- $170.00
Large wooden table w/ 6 chairs- $146.00
Onil fuel efficient stove- $186.00
Bed sheets- $25.00
Large kitchen cabinet- $200.00
Family Wardrobe- $224.00
Hope Chest- $98.00
How will I pay for these once I collect the money etc.?
Through my account on MayanFamilies.org, The website lists the items w/ prices here http://www.mayanfamilies.org/donate/index
One thing I have always loved to do is help people out, It puts a big smile on my face knowing i was able to help and put a smile on their face. :) You can donate whatever amount you want.
