THE STORY:

****Update 12/7/15***

This past Thursday, December 3, 2015, Andrea passed away peacefully with her mom, dad, stepdad, and Aunt Laura by her side. All of her siblings and Aunt Linda were able to speak with her before her passing as well. She got another infection in the days leading up to the 3rd and her body just wasn't strong enough to fight it off. It had been fighting nonstop for 7 months. She showed great strength and courage in these months, enduring more than anyone ever should have to endure. She did everything she possibly could without complaint. She will be greatly missed. The love, support, and prayers from so many means more to the family than they can express. Please continue to pray for them as they lay her to rest this week.

***Update 11/4/15****

the "family meeting" with the docs, yesterday, didn't go so well. But Andrea still worked so hard in physical therapy this morning. The techs were happy she progressed since yesterday. Last night a respiratory tech explained to her what the numbers on the ventilator machine meant. After he listed all the positives, she seemed to have a better understanding and a more positive outlook. Andrea must come off the ventilator and get stronger to have even a small chance of survival, but as long as that possibility is there...we fight....and pray. Thanks to all for continued remembrance in prayers :)

***** UPDATE 10/28/15

Andrea was doing well last week. She had been moved out of ICU and was working with physical therapy to regain her strength. On Friday she was able to almost stand and brush her own hair. Those little things we take for granted each day were a big accomplishment for her and the most she'd been able to do for herself since going on the ventilator following the TIPS surgery. Well, on Saturday she was sent back to the ICU because she needed to start dialysis. Most likely she will now need a kidney transplant along with the liver. Due to her fragile condition and the drs knowing that dialysis is hard on the body they put her back on the ventilator. They are hoping to be able to remove the vent today or tomorrow, but dialysis could need to be continued until a transplant. The hope is that her kidney function will pick up now that dialysis has removed a lot of the waste and extra fluid she was holding, but there's no way to know if that will actually happen. Andrea's dad was with her all weekend when she was sent back into ICU and her mom is back with her now. Barb has not been able to work for over a month because of wanting/needing to stay with Andrea 4 hours from home while she's been going through these surgeries, ICU stays, and physical therapy. Continued prayers and any financial support would be greatly appreciated.

***Andrea Update 10/7/15***

Yesterday, Andrea had her third surgery (in two days), this time for embolization of an arterial bleed. It looks like it might have been successful for now. She hasn't woken up, yet, but she's stable...still in very critical condition...but numbers are currently trending the right direction. One of the transplant doctors put it in perspective by saying first priority is to save her life right now....this infection they found appears to have been chronic, but hidden in the liver and vessels surrounding, so it was lucky it was found. Doc said with this infection, she never would have made it through the transplant operation. So...he said we get her through this and we'll still have time to sort out transplant details. One step at a time. Thanks to everyone for all the support

**** Original Post 10/3/15:

Andrea was born with a rare liver condition called biliary atresia and is now in need of a liver transplant. She has run into many complications and has been hospitalized since May 13th. During this time she has been in Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and is presently at the Cleveland Clinic. Andrea is currently on life support following surgery yesterday where an infection spread to her blood. Andrea and her family can use your prayers and financial support at this time. Cleveland is over 4 hours from where the family lives so they have many travel expenses including gas, hotels, and food; and her parents, especially her mom, have missed a lot of work to be with her while she's in the ICU. This has been ongoing for 5 months and the costs are piling up quickly. Any support would be greatly appreciated.
