BENEFITING: ENDURE TO CURE PEDIATRIC CANCER FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Aug 22, 2015
I will be running the Leadville100 (aka "The Race Across the Sky"), a 100 mile trail run through Colorado's Sawatch mountain range. I am raising money for the ENDURE TO CURE foundation. While this event will certainly be difficult, it is a cake walk in comparison to what children with cancer go through.
I was first introduced to the ENDURE TO CURE foundation and its founder, Jason Sissel, five years ago via an introduction through my college mentor, and Jason's wife Shana. In addition to similar career interests, Jason and I also had an affinity for competeing in endurance events.
Jason is the founder of ENDURE TO CURE, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Boston that helps children with cancer through Small Miracles & Travel for Treatment Assistance programs.
At the time of our first introduction, ENDURE TO CURE was very much in its infancy. Over the last five years, I have watched the organization grow from a local, grass-roots start up to a national organization which has impacted the lives of thousands of children and their families.
Cancer touches the lives of virtually everyone. The hardship placed on children and their families is especially burdensome. Long commutes to specialist pediatric hospitals and medical expenses can place a tremendous financial burden on families, or at worst, can make frequent visits nearly impossible.
The Travel for Treatment Assistance program provides families in need with the resources (flight and hotel vouchers, gas cards, etc.) to be able to visit with their children during treatment. The Small Miracles program arranges activities and events for children which makes life inside a hospital slightly more tolerable.
Ultimately, ENDURE TO CURE aims to boost the morale of children with cancer as they undergo an extremely arduous treatment process. While increased moral does not assure recovery, it makes, what could be a child's last months a little more enjoyable. 100% of your donation will help bring a little more hope and inspiration along the way and you will receive a notification of the kids and families we helped serve. Thank you for your consideration!
