BENEFITING: BIOSPHERE EXPEDITIONS
EVENT DATE: Aug 18, 2013
I've always been a keen wildlife enthusiast and rather than go on an organised tour bus that simply views wildlife, I wanted to get involved in a hands-on practical conservation experience that directly benefits wildlife and the humans that live alongside them. Therefore, I'm volunteering on a scientific conservation study working with big cats (leopards & cheetahs) and elephants in Namibia for 2 weeks over August 2013.
I chose this project through Biosphere Expeditions as they're a not-for-profit/charity (in countries such as the UK, USA, Australia, Germany and France) and they donate most of the proceeds they receive back into the dozen or so carefully selected projects they organise around the world each year. They also regularly win numerous conservation awards and accolades.
I'm hoping to raise some money towards the expedition contribution that will go to funding the scientific research with the aim of minimising human/wildlife conflict. This contribution not only helps keep the project alive, it will cover everything from equipment, lodging, food and training. Biosphere Expeditions is a registered charity in the US and runs this fundraising website there, which is why this site is in US dollars! Link to my project below:
