Andy Short Bikes and Builds
Organized by: Andy Short
EVENT DATE Jun 07, 2014
The Problem: As you are probably aware it’s been a bit of a tumultuous couple of years financially for ol’ America. It’s hard not to overstate this fact. And if you listen to the daily news cycle you might be under the impression that things are getting rosie, the sun is rising, and everything will be back to “normal” real soon. Well normal is 46.2 million people living in poverty (that’s a paltry $23,050 a year for a family of four). That’s almost 15% of the entire population of the US. Ridiculous. Some other depressing stats: the number of low income families who spend more than 30% on housing (that’s the number recommended by the Department of Housing and Urban Development) has doubled to 32.8 million in just the last 10 years. Unacceptable.
The Project: Bike and Build works to combat these numbers by distributing the fundraising of each rider in the form of grants to organizations supporting affordable housing, by donating in the name of our bike trip hosts, and by allowing the riders to choose eligible charities along the way. Along the way my group will stop at build sites to aid in the construction of affordable housing projects as well. Finally, my employer will match each dollar you donate, so the money raised for this trip go even farther to the cause!
I've been able to raise $1400 out of a $3000 goal. That means $1600 left to go. I need your help to do it.
Thank you so much for your support friends!
