When Karma Rescue first met Ryder he had been rescued from the streets of LA, he was a senior dog who had bad arthritis but a great attitude and full of love and happiness. This sweet starving (30% underweight) abandoned dog snuck into the car of a gentle-eyed cat lady who was out feeding homeless kitties – she named him Ryder because he caught a ride with her.
Ryder was so weak he could hardly carry his own weight and had to be carried up the stairs. He was limping and walking bow-legged, so he underwent x-rays for his spine, hips and legs which determined his bow-leggedness was a genetic issue from birth, while his limping was due to arthritis in his back knees.
His inability to bear his own weight was due to malnourishment and dehydration. After several visits to the vet, piles of medication, B12 shots, special food and care at the board and care facility and A LOT OF PRAYERS - finally Ryder started making his recovery.
He was fortunate enough to meet his forever family and he has been with them since then, unfortunately; his arthritis and limping is getting worse even after trying lots of treatments and medications; he also has Torn ACL (Anterior Crucial Ligament). All these things cause a lot of pain when Ryder tries to move around; plus the medications could result in kidney and liver damage.
Apart from his bad ligaments and joints; Ryder is in perfect health and he is still a happy boy. The doctors have recommended Karma Rescue to try Stem Cell Injections; stem cell therapy on dogs regenerate and repair their joints and we figure it is worth a try!
An operation like the one Ryder needs takes several hours. To start, the vet harvests fat cells from the pet's abdomen or shoulder, then spins the cells to separate out the stem cells that are naturally present in fat. These cells are mixed with special enzymes to "digest" any residual fat and connective tissue, and are then "activated" by mixing them with "plasma rich platelets" extracted from the animal's blood cells. The mixture is stimulated under a LED light and finally, the newly awakened cells are injected back into the damaged joint. Pets that have gone under this treatment have seen incredible results within weeks!
The estimate for this treatment is $3500.00
If we all contribute even a little, we can show Ryder we are on his side and we are here to help.
We need your support, let’s give Ryder a chance to live pain free and enjoy the rest of his life!
