A New Start For Oksana
Organized by: Blerta Prekelezaj
A Mojo in the Morning listener found Oksana sleeping in her car for over a week without food, heat or a place to sleep. He reached out to Mojo in the Morning for help. As an intern for the show without any hesitation, I quickly volunteered to take her into my home so she at least has food and a warm place to stay. This will temporarily help her until she recovers from the below zero weather conditions that have caused 3rd degree frost bite on her hands and feet.
Oksana is Ukrainian woman with no family here in the states to help her. She came to the US to work as a sit-in housekeeper. Due to the economy she was laid off and without speaking fluent English has had difficulty finding jobs. After getting to know Oksana the past few days that she's been in my home, I found out that a year ago, Oksana got into a terrible car accident and now suffers from 3 debilitating disc fractures on her back and she continued to work through the pain because she had no other option to keep up with her bills. This still wasn't enough so she has lost her home and is also very close to having her car repossessed due to being 4 months behind on car payments.
My family is more than happy to help Oksana but we also need your help for when she is physically capable of living on her own and getting back on track for a stable life. This could be any of us, losing everything you worked so hard for and having no one to lean on.
Thank you to all the listeners for calling in on Mojo in the Morning, it's great to see the community come together to help. We can't help everyone but at least we can help someone. If you can help in anyway, whether it's clothing, work, donations or a place to stay PLEASE message me. What if this was your daughter, sister or mother? I believe that there are still good people out there and anything you can do will make a difference. God Bless & thank you!
